Therapeutic Play
Play Therapy harnesses a child's natural love of play to foster positive changes in their life. By using toys, children can express themselves in ways that feel natural to them.
It is different to talk therapy, where words are the primary tool, rather play therapy uses toys, art, and imagination to help children communicate.
Play therapy benefits children aged three to eleven by enabling them to experience themselves positively, leading to healthier flourishing.
What Does A Typical Session Involve?
In weekly, 45-minute sessions, your child will play with a variety of specially chosen therapeutic toys such as art materials, puppets, and objects that help them express themselves.
Your child will be free to explore through play, and the therapist will follow their lead. While it may look like they are “just playing,” the therapist is skillfully observing and gently supporting their development by encouraging self-esteem, emotional expression, self-responsibility, and problem-solving skills.
Each session has a consistent structure and timeframe, helping your child feel safe and at ease. The therapist will foster a trusting relationship through presence, warmth, and attuned responses.
